butler Jeffersonville Products

Our sheet steel products are produced at our electric arc furnace (EAF) mills that together comprise our Flat Roll Group. One of our Flat Roll Divisions is located in Butler, Indiana; one in Columbus, Mississippi and the other in Sinton, Texas. All of three of these Divisions manufacture flat rolled steel sheet. Additionally, both locations have state-of-the-art galvanizing facilities. Our Flat Roll Butler Sinton Divisions are the only minimill locations in North America capable of providing hot roll, cold roll, coated and painted products from a single facility. Part of the Flat Roll Butler Division includes our galvanizing and painting facilities in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

We produce carbon steel sheet in widths from 36 to 76 inches and in thicknesses ranging from 5/8-inch down to very thin gauge. We specialize in thin-gauge, high-strength alloy steels, hot rolled steel sheet as thin as 0.042 inches. Our capabilities range from formable low-carbon grades to ultra-high-strength steels. Our Flat Roll Group is ISO 9001 and ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9001 certified.

Markets

Flat rolled steel products represent the largest portion of the domestic steel market. Our steel sheet products are used in the manufacturing of automobiles, appliances, construction products, consumer electronics, agricultural products such as culverts and grain bins, office furniture and pipe and tubing for the oil and natural gas wells. The following chart shows the U.S. shipments of these products, as reported by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

Hot-Rolled Bands

Unprocessed bands or steel sheet is processed to its final thickness on a hot-strip mill and is shipped directly off the hot-strip mill with no edge trimming and no cropping of the coil ends. Additional processing – such as pickling, edge trimming, and tension leveling – are available as value added processes.

Floor Plate

Our floor plate is produced to the industry standard ASTM A786 No. 4 pattern directly off the hot-strip mill and hasn’t been trimmed or cropped back to gauge. Additional processing, such as pickling or edge trimming, is available through a well-qualified external processor.

Hot-Rolled Processed Black Bands

We have Hot Roll processed bands available from our on-site Levelling line with shape enhancement.

Hot-Rolled Pickled Steel Products

Our pickled hot-rolled steel sheet is available for customers requiring an oxide- or scale-free hot-rolled surface.
We have a state-of-the-art continuous pickler, with in-line edge trimming and tension levelling available as well as a Push Pull Pickle line with shape enhancement to meet our customer needs.

Cold-Rolled Steel Sheet

Our cold-rolled steel sheet has been cold-reduced to the specified thickness, and subsequently annealed and temper-rolled to achieve the desired characteristics. Alternately, customers may specify full-hard, half-hard, quarter-hard or skin rolled cold-rolled steel with off- gauge heads and tails cropped at the temper mill. Our cold-rolled steel is used in a broad range of applications by manufacturers in the automotive, appliance, office-furniture, lighting and tubing industries.

Hot-Rolled Galvanized Steel Sheet

Produced at our flagship Butler Division, our innovative hot-rolled substrate galvanized steel is coated with a thin layer of zinc to increase corrosion resistance. Galvanized sheet steel provides a cost-effective solution for heavy-gauge, unexposed applications. In addition to our standard spangle-free finish, we also offer galvannealed coatings for enhanced weldability. A variety of surface treatments are available to further inhibit oxidation or to improve formability. Common applications for our hot-rolled galvanized products are found in the agricultural, appliance, automotive, construction, and pipe and tube industries.
